Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored 40 goals in 46 matches across all competitions for Borussia Dortmund last season, with 31 scoring strikes in 32 Bundesliga games. With stellar numbers like that, he’ll obviously command a massive amount in the summer transfer market, and Liverpool Football Club seem keen on buying.
According to a report by Paris publication La Parisien, LFC are chasing Aubameyang for a club record £60.9 million transfer fee. the outlet based in the French capital also claims that Aubameyang is reciprocating the interest, as he’s keen on a reunion with his former Manager at BVB, Jurgen Klopp.
The nearly £61m amount would absolutely shatter the LFC club record, currently held by Christian Benteke, who came over from Aston Villa for £39.53 million two summers ago. That deal turned out to be a massive flop, and contributed significantly to the ouster of Klopp’s predecessor Brendan Rodgers. With the sales of Luis Suarez and Raheem Sterling, Rodgers brought a ton of money to the club for player acquisition, but ended up squandering a lot of it on strikers who just didn’t pan out.
That’s left Liverpool with a need for a hitman in the final third, and Aubameyang would be the optimal fit. He would also work quite well with newly acquired midfielder Mohamed Salah, who will reportedly undergo his LFC medical on Tuesday.
The Reds haven’t had issues scoring, they have lots of talent in attack, but the striker position has been largely ineffective and very injury-riddled lately.
Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang already has an effective and productive history with Klopp, so the idea of acquiring him checks off a lot of important boxes for Liverpool.
