Trent Alexander-Arnold has settled in at the right back position for Liverpool this season, providing stability within a position group that has been very much maligned. The Liverpool back line will be very much scrutinized this week, ahead of the UEFA Champions League Final against Real Madrid.
They will be tasked with trying to stop Cristiano Ronaldo, one of the greatest scorers in the history of the game. Alexander-Arnold articulated one of the psychological keys to attempting to achieve this objective.
“Most opponents aren’t Ronaldo! You have to show him respect but not too much, because that’s when you get taken advantage of,” said TAA.
“You have a job to do and whoever I am up against I will try to come out on top like I always try.”
He then explained how practicing everyday against the 2017-18 Golden Boot, PFA Player of the Year and Premier League Player of the Year awards winner Mohamed Salah can toughen up he and his Liverpool fellow backs.
“Obviously, the right preparation for these kind of tests is training against world-class players like Mo,” Alexander-Arnold continued.
“All the team push each other every single day, and every day we see an improvement in all of us. We’ve come a long way this season and hopefully at the weekend we can top it off.”
Liverpool enter this match as underdogs, and that’s to be expected given how they will be facing the side that has won the last two, and three of the last four, Champions League titles.
