Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian, currently serving as the first choice option because of a calf injury to the Reds No. 1 Alisson, could miss the team’s match at Southampton tomorrow. Adrian was injured after a collision with a fan who ran on to the pitch after Liverpool’s penalty shoot out UEFA Super Cup victory on Wednesday night.
Shortly after saving the spot kick by Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham, Adrian was mobbed in celebration by Liverpool teammates, coaches and staff. A pitch-invading fan then joined the mosh pit and accidentally slid into Adrian, and now the Spaniard is an injury doubt for Saturday’s trip to Southampton, due to a swollen ankle.

“When we were all together, a supporter jumped over, was chased by some security guys, slipped and kicked [Adrian’s] ankle,” Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp told his news conference today.
“Crazy! Yesterday it was swollen and today I spoke to him and he said it’s much better, but we have to see. He couldn’t have played directly after we landed in Liverpool, but I saw him now, he’s better.”
So we’ll see if Adrian is available or not, but if he can’t go what’s the emergency/injury crisis option in between the sticks?
With Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet both off the team now, Klopp would have to go with either Andy Lonergan, who trained with Liverpool during their preseason exhibition tour in the United States, or highly rated youngster Caoimhin Kelleher.
Although Kelleher himself is still shaking off a wrist injury.
Asked if either of the two could be a first team selection against Saints, Klopp responded: “If we have to make a decision, then we make a decision.”
“Caoimhin is a boy we are all excited about. He’s now in training, but not 100 percent yet. He has to be in training today, then we will see.”
What a crazy way to get injured, and what a weird and bad predicament Liverpool find themselves in during the second week of the season.
