(Update: Leicester City wins English Premier League Title, Leicester and Leicester City top trending terms worldwide on social media)
According to multiple reports a couple weeks ago, Leicester City Manager Claudio Ranieri is being backed for a knighthood by a cross-party group of MPs if he guides Leicester to the title.
Jonathan Ashworth, the Member of Parliament ruling over the area that includes the King Power Stadium, says that Ranieri’s achievements deserves kudos and accolades.
It’s just astounding for a side that was promoted from the Championship just two seasons ago, and entered this season with 5000-1 odds of winning it all. It’s not just a remarkable EPL underdog story, or even a phenomenal football Horatio Alger story- it’s an inspirational tale of sport or even life in general.
Expect a Claudio Ranieri, or Leicester City movie within a few years.
“What Claudio Ranieri has done, not only for Leicester City but for English football, is nothing short of phenomenal,” Ashworth told The Sun.
“It has been a beautiful fairytale story and fans would surely agree he deserves the recognition an honorary knighthood would bring.”

Even Ranieri, who’s been relatively calm and collected during his team’s remarkable season, seemed flattered by the idea.
“Sir Claudio! Unbelievable! I really like this! Don’t joke please,” he laughed after Leicester’s draw with West Ham.
I can’t wait to hear what Sir Alex Ferguson will have to say on this matter, when a reporter inevitably asks him his thoughts on the potential knighting of Claudio Ranieri.
