Legendary broadcaster Ian Darke, a man who can take most banal and uninspiring circumstances and somehow transform them to the pinnacle of relevance, via his transcendent voice, made his Premier League season predictions yesterday. Ian Darke was on the ESPN FC talk show, and he pegged Paul Pogba to be Premier League player of the year.
However, Darke sees the Manchester United man’s side finishing just fourth in the table.
It’s a bit perplexing as he has Chelsea third, Tottenham Hotspur second (Harry Kane the leading scorer) and Manchester City to win the title. Darke is of course impressed by what United have done so far, but also points out that the Red Devils haven’t really played anybody. Getting back to the Frenchman, Darke explained his prediction there.
He sees Nemanja Matic as a very important signing for the team, as he’s Pogba to press forward. Darke also mentioned other important factors such as the world record breaking transfer fee (which Pogba no longer has to be concerned with), Mourinho was just settling in, etc.
“I think this season you’ll see the real Paul Pogba. I think he’s a really fine player,” the announcer concluded.
The Ian Darke Pogba POY pick comes the same exact day that Anthony Martial backed Pogba to win the Ballon d’Or. Read more on that here.
