Much was made of Manchester United’s inability to land the centre back that they so desperately wanted in the summer transfer window. Leicester City man Harry Maguire was one of Old Trafford’s many central defender targets as the window was drawing to a close.
Maguire, like Toby Alderweireld, Diego Godin, Jerome Boateng and Yerry Mina, ended up not moving to Old Trafford. According to his Leicester teammate in the back line, Ben Chilwell, the 2018 World Cup star for England won’t be coming in January either.
ย โIt is very good to have Harry back,โ Chilwell said after his Foxes lost at Manchester United Friday night in the Premier League season opener.
โWe all know what Harry is capable of, we all know how good he is.ย He could have come here today and his head could have been all over the place, but he did brilliantly.”
This summer saw reports claiming Maguire wanted a move to Old Trafford, but Foxes manager Claude Puel repeatedly said the English international was not and is not for sale. Chilwell re-affirmed Maguire’s commitment to his current club.
“He is a Leicester player, he wants to play for Leicester.ย He has made that clear to all of us,” Chilwell added. “He is going to be here for the whole season.
โHe is going to be good for us. We saw that again tonight, how good a player he is. We are all happy that he has stayed.โ
