Robert Lewandowski’s move from Bayern Munich to Barcelona FC has been riddled with drama and speculation; particularly odd from a team that most usually does transfers such as these as discreetly as possible.
In any case, the facts are that the move is now utterly complete, and Barça has got their hands on one of the best players the world of soccer has ever seen.
The transfer
The details about the deal relating to the now ex-Bayern Munich’s striker have been leaked, back a few months when the team lost one of his most prolific goal scorers; his contract, which was about to expire, only missing 12 months before it ended had a release fee of the outstanding sum of 500 million euros, apart from that the deal itself was set at 45 million euros plus an extra 5 million euros in add-ons.
So, although The Star of the South will shine a little less bright without this outstanding player, it at least certainly wasn’t left empty-handed.
The drama
The move to Barça was riddled with drama though, as Bayern was utterly reluctant to release one of the best players on its roster. For years the athlete had become the safest bet for The Reds’ success; it was most likely especially egregious for them since the whole thing started right as the Champions League was drawing nearer and nearer, and now that it’s right on top of them, the main question is, how will they fare in one of the most competitive soccer tournaments in the world? Well, at least so far things are going rather smoothly, as during their latest match with Inter Millan they mustered a 0-2 victory with relatively few complications.
A terrible blow
To say that Lewandowski’s transfer was and still represents a huge loss for The Reds would be an understatement. Amongst the legendary athlete’s many accomplishments we can mention that he has been named as Bundesliga’s top scorer for seven seasons, he received the best FIFA Men’s Player award twice and in 2020 he was named UEFA’s Best Player in Europe; that same year the vast majority agree that he would have and should have received the Ballon d’Or, and on the following year he almost got it, with the winner, Lionel Messi, recognizing himself during his speech that Lewandowski should have got it. They were only 33 points apart, so it’s not at all far-fetched that he could have received it back then.
Some say however that the player was neither essential to the team for their past glories, nor do they need him for their continued success. In any case, the athlete sure has kept up his amazing displays of skill on Barcelona, on their latest match in the Champions League, they pulled an amazing 5-1 win against Viktoria Plze, of which Lewandowski scored three of the five goals.
Fans of Barça must be utterly pleased that the star has kept his shine since he departed from Bayern, and must surely be hoping to see him bring them to greater glory as the Champions League moves onwards; and whilst The Reds surely still feel a little betrayed after the exit, they still stand strong and certainly will keep the victories coming up, with or without the striker.
