Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is not messing around, nor is he pulling any punches. He’s laying it all out on the line, and telling it like it is. Pick your cliche, epigram or maxim, because the “numbers don’t lie.”
Manchester City continues on their record setting pace this season, looking unbeatable right now. They have a very healthy lead over the defending champions Chelsea right now, and it would take a seismic shift in the current momentum in order to see the Blues successfully defend their league title this season.
Antonio Conte led Chelsea to a very convincing 3-1 win at Huddersfield Town tonight, and after the match he talked big picture, in a very blunt manner.
“I think when you tell the truth, this is the truth,” Conte told his post match press conference.
“Now we have 11 points less than Manchester City, and they have to play tomorrow. They have won 15 and drew one. In 17 games we lost four games. When you have a competitor like Manchester City that is winning every game it is very difficult to think you can win the title. People say talk negative or positive. It’s bullshit.”
“I would rather tell the truth than a good lie. Sometimes I can be too honest, I like to speak to the players and fans.”
“It doesn’t mean that we are not going to try to catch them. This league is very difficult and to drop points can happen.”
Wow! That’s a lot of refreshing honesty there! Kudos to the Italian for not reverting to coachspeak, cliches and other press conferencisms. It’s also not the first occasion that has seen Antonio Conte declare the Premier League title race over. The Blues conceded defeat on this initiative three days ago.
