Italian international and Brazilian born Jorginho has officially joined manager Maurizio Sarri in moving from Napoli to Chelsea.
Both the midfielder and the manager were unveiled Saturday by the club, and the Jorginho deal reportedly has Manchester City fuming. Jorginho signed a five-year contract with Chelsea worth about €60 million where he will wear the no.5 shirt.
City are reportedly furious about this deal, to the point that they will not do business with Napoli again.
This according to ESPN FC, who write that: “A £43m transfer fee was agreed between De Laurentiis and City last month, but Napoli reneged on that deal, leaving club hierarchy stunned.”
Jorginho reportedly wanted a move to Chelsea instead of City, and the west London side were willing to pay an amount that Pep Guardiola would not. Jorginho, along with Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez, were Guardiola’s top two transfer targets this summer. City tried to obtain Mahrez in the winter window, but Leicester held out for more money.
That transfer was finally completed this past week in a deal that broke the City transfer fee record. Getting back to Jorginho, he released the following statement via the club website:

“I am absolutely ecstatic to be here at Chelsea. It is not easy to become part of such a big team so I am very, very happy. I am excited to play in such an intense league, for a team that gives everything to play and win.”
Added CFC Director Marina Granovskaia:
“We are delighted Jorginho has chosen to join Chelsea. He was one of the most coveted midfielders in Europe and will become an important member of the playing squad. He has demonstrated his quality working under Maurizio Sarri and we are convinced his signing will help bring further success to Stamford Bridge.”
