Arsenal FC was our preseason pick to finish fourth, and here they are in that very position as the second international break commences. The Gunners are one spot higher in NBC Sports’ Premier League power rankings this week, a list that obviously has some correlation with the current table, but not completely.
As we said in our Arsenal FC season preview, the Gunners will score, but struggle a little bit to stop opposing goals at times. The north London side has indeed been a fun to watch high scoring side, with the strike force pairing/bromance of Alexandre Lacazaette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang really in elite form right now.ย
Gunners man Alex Iwobi has declared his side to be league title contenders right now, and at least at the level of dark horse or sleeper, he’s right.
Here’s what NBC wrote about the team headquartered at the Emirates, who have reached a new season high in the rankings:
3. Arsenal โย Wow. Here come the Gunners. Nine wins on the spin in all competitions and six in a row in the league means thatย Unai Emeryย is having to calm everyone down.ย Alexandre Lacazetteย andย Pierre-Emerick Aubameyangย are on fire and scored twice each in the 5-1 win at Fulham, while defensively there is still room for improvement but they look better at the back.
Last week: 4
Season high: 4
Season low: 9
NBC ranks Arsenal’s London rivals Chelsea first and Tottenham Hotspur seventh. Arsenal FC will return to action two weeks from today with a league clash against Leicester City.
