At his press conference today, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger laughed off Sam Allardyce’s suggestion that it was Olivier Giroud’s wife who nixed the striker’s potential move to Everton.
Big Sam put forth this idea during his news conference this week, when the recently hired Everton boss was asked if he believed the Toffees could acquire Giroud in the January transfer window.
“I wouldn’t have thought so because he refused to come last time,” Allardyce responded yesterday at a press conference.
“He doesn’t want to move north of London, I don’t think. Or his wife doesn’t. It is very important to the wives you know. Normally they are the bosses, I say that with experience.”
Allardyce apparently sees Jennifer Giroud as having a tremendous affect on the January transfer market.
“No, I don’t think so,” Wenger responded today when the idea was put to him.
“He could have joined Everton and stayed basically in London. I don’t think that was the problem.”
Giroud, currently out with a hamstring issue until January, had said earlier this season that he was “very close” to joining Everton, but obviously decided to stay put.
Giroud suffered the hamstring problem in the League Cup win over West Ham, and Wenger said that he expects his back-up striker to be out for three weeks.
