Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette is the primary Arsenal transfer rumor circulating in the Twitterverse, blogosphere, cyberspace and media world today. He was heavily linked to the Gunners last summer, as well as Arsenal’s local rival Tottenham Hotspur. In the past he’s also been linked to Liverpool, West Ham United and Paris Saint-Germain.
In other words, he’s a man in high demand and if Arsenal really want to sign him this summer transfer window, they’ll have to pay big money. However, both The Guardian and The Telegraph are reporting that a deal is moving closer to getting done.
The Guardian writes that Arsenal “are hopeful of securing the highly rated France striker Alexandre Lacazette after lodging a club record bid worth £44m, a fee likely to prove acceptable to Lyon and spark a flurry of knock-on movement in the transfer market.”
Meanwhile The Telegraph claims that the Emirates have already conducted “further talks with Lyon over the striker Alexandre Lacazette, who would be a club record £49m signing, plus additional payments, perhaps in mut coins, should he decide to come to the Premier League club despite there being no Champions League football at the Emirates nest season.”
Thus, both outlets, despite showing some significant spread in the reported transfer fee, claim a deal is nearing completion. Both amounts, would surpass the current Arsenal acquisition price record. That slot is currently at £42.5 million, the amount potentially due to Real Madrid (depending on add-ons) for Mesut Özil, who came to North London in 2013.
