Natalie Imbruglia is starring alongside the guy who played Shoeless Joe Jackson and a younger Samantha Ponder lookalike in a movie, similar to some titles you’ll see in the library at 123movies, about high school football. Oh and Broadway Joe Namath is in it too.
You remember Natalie Imbruglia, the pop princess and one-hit wonder from down under. “Nothing’s fine I’m torn….lying naked on the floor.” Yes, “Torn” was a huge international hit in 1997 and it dominated the radio for a couple years. And that was the last we’ve heard of Natalie Imbruglia stateside. Although she did have a couple hits in the U.K. in later years.
The Aussie actress/model/singer (you might as well add “female sports television journalist” in there as all the women who work on the tv side of this business are pretty much actress/model/singers) stars in Doug Dearth’s high school football drama UNDERDOGS, (yes the press release is in ALL CAPS so it gets your ATTENTION) which was written by Dave Latham and stars D.B. Sweeney (Shoeless Joe in “Eight Men Out” one of the greatest movies ever, not just the greatest Chicago White Sox movies, but all movies), on DVD.
The film also stars Natalie Imbruglia see the video below, Logan Huffman, William Mapother (“Lost”) and the legendary Joe Namath.
Underdogs is based on true events of a high school football team no one expected to succeed. Filmed in Canton, Ohio, the Knights are a lousy team who’ve become a target for jokes. When down on his luck Coach DeAntonio (D.B. Sweeney) arrives, he pushes the boys to see their potential, while a hometown bartender (Natalie Imbruglia) tries to reopen his guarded heart. When quarterback Bobby Burkett (Logan Huffman) falls in love with a cheerleader (Maddie Hasson the Samantha Steele lookalike I was talking about) from a rival team, it enrages their star John Handon (Charlie Carver).
