Don’t call him “Shoelace” anymore. It’s an annoying played out nickname that attempts to minimize all that he is just one play. And that’s unfair because Michigan Wolverines QB and dual-threat du jour Denard Robinson is a man of so many moves. Not just one play.
The Deerfield Beach native has been named to the Davey OโBrien National Quarterback Award and Walter Camp Football Foundation Player of the Year watch lists.
Robinson is one of six Big Ten quarterbacks, and 38 nationally, selected to The OโBrien watch list.ย Robinson was a semifinalist for the award in 2010, when he became the first player in NCAA history to pass for 2,500 yards and rush for 1,500 yards in a single season.
It will be interesting to how he adjusts to a new offensive system, one that will require him to hand off more and run less. He’ll also be expected to drop back more and go through his second and third progressions more often instead of taking off running.
The 2010 Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year, Denard is one of four Big Ten players, and 40 nationally, named to the watch list for the Walter Camp Player of the Year award, the fourth-oldest individual college football accolade.ย After being narrowed down to 10 semifinalists in mid-November, the 2011 Walter Camp Player of the Year recipient, which is voted on by the 120 NCAA Bowl Subdivision head coaches and sports information directors, will be announced live on ESPN SportsCenter on Thursday, Dec. 8.
