Purdue Boilermakers coach Jeff Brohm took a very unorthodox, but also extremely interesting and quite compelling approach to B1G Media Day. Each team is allowed to bring three players to the conference media day sessions in Chicago, and Brohm, a former NFL quarterback himself, took two quarterbacks to account for two of the three slots.
As soon as it was announced that David Blough and Elijah Sindelar were to attendance media days, one was able to naturally infer that we have an old-fashioned Purdue Boilermakers quarterback derby on our hands. Today on the magnificent mile, during his time up on dais, the session that was televised, Brohm confirmed that.
So both young men, to handle this position of two quarterbacks, I couldn’t ask for two better people to do it with,” Brohm said in ballroom session on TV.
“So it’s made that aspect of it much easier. They both bring it every day. They compete. I do think that competition brings out the best of both of them. I do think that the competition that they have lets the other positions know that that’s what we’re looking for and they need to raise their level of play.”
During the breakout sessions at the individual podiums (which were not televised) we spent some in the media scrums of all four Purdue Boilermakers representatives-
Brohm, Sindelar, Blough and then finally, linebacker Markus Bailey at the end.

Purdue has not had the same starting signal-caller on back to back opening days since 2006-08 (Curtis Painter) and that decade long streak will continue if anyone other Sindelar takes the first snap against Northwestern on August 30th.
Here below you’ll find the audio from all five sessions (Blough is in two parts):
Brohm on a whole slew of topics:
Purdue Boilermakers Quarterback David Blough Part 1
on the QB derby, Brohm turning around the program, his speech at the kickoff luncheon last year and much more
Purdue Boilermakers Quarterback David Blough Part 2
Blough on going to the Manning camp, the Manning family, the tough schedule to open the season and program momentum
Purdue Boilermakers Quarterback Elijah Sindelar
Sindelar discusses the QB1 evaluative process, which factors and variables are going to be prioritized in Brohm’s decision, the “Cradle of Quarterbacks,” his praise for Kyle Orton, Drew Brees and much much more.
Purdue Boilermakers Linebacker Markus Bailey
The conversation actually begins with some discussion on the much more serious societal issues of CTE, concussions, campus sexual assault and the #MeToo movement.
