The trend of college football stars embracing world football continues. Notre Dame Wide Receiver Chris Brown is a big supporter of Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund; who are currently in first place. Northwestern wideout Christian Jones is a Tottenham Hotspur fan. You can hear his Premier League picks at this link. Jones’ teammate Ifeadi Odenigbo likes Manchester City.
Former Michigan quarterback Devin Gardner was honored to have his picture taken with Manchester United icon Ryan Giggs, and Wolverines football players were thrilled to see Cristiano Ronaldo take to the pitch in his home stadium last summer.
“I’m a die hard BvB fan; that’s my team,” Chris Brown said at Notre Dame Media Day.
“I love ’em.”
“My mentality is I feel like everyone is in to Real Madrid, Barcelona, but I wanted to get into that kind of quiet team, and I feel like BvB is a nice little underdog team,” he said.
“I’m all BVB all the way, Marco Reus my favorite player, (Ilkay) Gundogan, obviously my second favorite player,” Brown continued.
This is the first year that Chris Brown will get to watch every Borussia Dortmund game on regular cable television, as FOX Sports has brought over a broadcast of the entire Bundesliga season in 2014-15, via their partner Sky Deutschland.
BVB is located in Dortmund, North Rhine-Westphalia. Dortmund currently sits atop the the Bundesliga table, the German top flight. Dortmund is one of the most successful clubs in German football history, as is Bayern Munich, with which they currently tied in first place.
Both Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich are 3-0 right now. As for Chris Brown and American football, well he’s quite good. The senior from Hanahan, South Carolina was second on the Irish in receiving yards (548), second in receiving yards per game (42.2) and third in receptions (39) last season.
Everyone is expecting big things from him this season.
