If Notre Dame Football Coach Brian Kelly were to actually search his name and check his mentions on Twitter right now…..
Yes, Brian Kelly is trending right now, and it’s not good.
#FireBrianKelly is trending right now.
He just lost a game played 1.5 miles west of a hurricane, in ungodly conditions that truly boggle the mind as to why the game was even played in the first place. The monsoon conditions and insane backdrop of the 10-3 loss at N.C. State did produce some great GIFs though and we compiled some of the better Tweets for you at this link.
In this posting we’re going to cover all the backlash against Notre Dame football Coach Brian Kelly right now. Many fans are calling for his head right now as the Fighting Irish fell to 2-4, and now found themselves precariously close to being eliminated from bowl contention.
The ND fan community wanted Defensive Coordinator Brian VanGorder gone; they got their wish. BVG was an easy and appropriate scapegoat, but what does Coach Kelly do now?

Well, he did call out his long snapper in the post game press conference, and that’s definitely not scoring any proverbial points with anybody. Quarterback DeShone Kizer stood up for center Sam Mustipher afterward, saying: “To have the ball sitting in a pool of water out there … I can guarantee that we won’t have Hurricane Matthew in South Bend when we get back.”
Kelly is also being criticized for calling too many pass plays considering the conditions- in a Category 1 hurricane!
DeShone Kizer threw 26 times, while N.C. State threw just 14 passes. Anyway, we’re not here to endorse dismissing or retaining Brian Kelly at this exact moment. We’ll save that discussion for another place and time, after we’ve considered all of the relevant factors on that issue.
You’ve got to remember how much a Brian Kelly potential buyout would cost; and just how long it took to finally pay off Charlie Weis.
For now, here’s some of the more poignant Tweets on the current Brian Kelly discussion:

36 pass plays called by Brian Kelly in a HURRICANE … yet he's pinning the loss on his starting center. Unbelievable. https://t.co/2C0O4R9H95
