Just a couple days after former #3 overall 2002 NFL Draft pick Joey Harrington was hit by a car while biking and hospitalized, KJR Seattle is reporting that ex- Oregon Ducks reserve QB Andy Collins passed away while on a treadmill. It was a very bad week to be an ex-Duck signal caller. Authorities found him lying down on the treadmill, and preliminary reports indicate it was a heart attack. He and reporter Brooke Olzendam, of Fox Sports Network, Comcast Northwest fame were married just 10 days ago.
Most media outlets have not reported the story yet, but there are more details available on the Oregon and Washington Scout.com boards.
Our condolences go out to the Collins and Olzendam families. We can’t think of much in life that is worse than losing a spouse; and just days after getting married. Collins played in the Arena Football League, after his career at OU (2002-05) was complete.
Service will be held at 10:00am on Saturday at Resurrection Parish in Zillah, with a Rosary on Friday evening. Additional information will be available by visiting the Yakima Daily Herald’s website in the next few days.
UPDATE – Andy’s service has been moved to Monday morning at 10am, with the Rosary on Sunday evening begining at 5pm. Both will still take place at Resurrection Parish in Zillah.
