You mean the people of Boston aren’t busy looking ahead to Boston College football right now?
The sports fans in Boston have something better to keep them occupied?
With the murder investigation linked to Patriots TE Aaron Hernandez, the Bruins leading the NHL Stanley Cup Final 2-1 (game 4 tonight) and the Red Sox having their dysfunctionally obsessed fanbase (my home town has the same issue with the Cubs), I’d be happy if anyone at all in New England reads this.
This Boston College season preview is Wicked Pissah I promise.
You can read about your Celtics NBA Draft options next week. This week, read about your B.C. Eagles. There’s a whole lot of ACC in the 70s and 60s ranked teams; and a ton of basketball schools in the 77 in 77. Boston College is usually down here in the dregs with Duke, Kentucky, Syracuse, Indiana, Virgina, every season. It’s b-ball schools and ACC; or both.
Boston College last season: Wicked bad! 2-10, 1-7 in conference. They were dead last in college football in both sacks and tackles for a loss. You and I could do a better job getting into opponents backfields. The offense could not run the ball to save their lives (115th in rushing, 109th in scoring offense). And the D couldn’t stop the run to save their lives (111th rushing against, 100th in total) Boston College has been OL University lately. Not last year, and not this year. Don’t expect any of these offensive linemen to be first round picks in the NFL Draft.
Boston College reasons to get EXCITED! ALL CAPS! QB Chase Rettig is back. And he’s good! Certainly not Matt Ryan, Doug Flutie or Glenn Foley good, but pretty good nonetheless. Especially if he gets any help at all from the run game and his line. Split End Alex Amidon had probably the best best year by a receiver in school history. And he’s back too. So the Eagles will soar in the passing game. And Eagles are known in nature for attacking via the air. They’re not known for being ground predators. The Boston College Eagles are the same exact way.
Boston College reasons to get worried :( What exactly does this team do wicked good? The forward pass? Ok, but you’ll have to develop a better short passing game to chew up clock and control the ball because we know your running backs are not up to that task. B.C. needs to do something to keep their defense off the field. Looking at the depth in the last three recruiting classes will make you reach for another Sam Adams lager. Over and Over. Actually thinking about last year, you may want to drink a few Cape Codders. Make ’em all a double.
Key games: August 31st vs. Villanova, September 6th vs. Wake Forest. I doubt they’ll beat USC, so 2-0 out of the gates would do wonders for setting the tone of confidence on the season. Building self-esteem right from kickoff is key to rebounding from a horrific 2012 and making a productive 2013.
Boston College bottom line: With their soft schedule, 5-7 looks doable. 4-8 if they mess up. A bowl bid probably won’t happen unless they can knock off Wake Forest, Maryland, Syracuse and North Carolina. No matter how it goes, they’ll still be a pretty mediocre team. I would say 5th or 6th in the ACC Atlantic.
Key & Peele East/West College Bowl Roster: WR Spiffy Evans, LB Steele Divitto, DE Malachi Moore, QB Christian Suntrup,
