Jayย Glazer was the first to report on FOX NFL Sunday that John Fox was likely to become available. Multiple outlets report that Fox will interview with the Bears, and that he is a “front-runner” to get the Bears job. However, don’t count out the Atlanta Falcons.
It goes without saying that Fox and Team Vice President John Elway didn’t actually “mutually part ways,” as the party line says they did. There’s no such thing- like a “clean divorce.”
Said Glazer continued:
“John Elway looked at this season as, โThis is all or nothing, with what we spent, youโve got to go win us a Super Bowl.โ And the relationship between Elway, not just with Fox, but with the entire coaching staff, they both needed a split from each other.โ
Today John Fox and his entire staff were removed from power. There is reportedly, many more moves to come in Denver. Then Glazer brought up the Bears, and the potential of Fox coming to the midway.
โI think he and the Chicago Bears are the best fit. I think they are a great fit because you have an opportunity where youโve got a coach in there โ if they decide not to go with Jay Cutler โ John Fox has already been in [an unsettled quarterback situation] in Carolina, where he had Rodney Peete, Vinny Testaverde, guys like that and they figured it out.โ
Yep, therein lies the $22.3 million per year rub. What the Bears decide to go with Cutler, what they can actually do about Cutler in the practical world, drives everything in this coaching search. John Fox, Jay Cutler, Bears, Broncos, Blue, Orange. It’s all inter-connected. We are all one!
CBS’ Trent Green on where Fox goes from here:
“there will be an opportunity for him to coach again on another team. It has to be a veteran team. It has to be somewhere that is ready to win now, as opposed to trying to build something up. I donโt think that is where John Fox is in his career.”
CBS’ Rich Gannon on the John Fox rumors:
“could wind up in Chicago. Atlanta could be a good landing spot for him. Heโs an experienced, veteran coach that can put together a great staff.”
