Two of the big London clubs, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea FC, are looking to sell their stadium naming rights, but going about in completely different ways. Chelsea are hoping to retain the name Stamford Bridge if and when they “sell out” the title of their venue to a corporate sponsor.
This priority is leading to some obstruction. The Times has learnt that:
“the two clubs are adopting very different strategies as they seek a naming-rights partner in a competitive and crowded marketplace in the capital, which also features West Ham, who are still looking for a ground sponsor six months after moving to the London Stadium.”
A good example of this kind of arrangement would be “the Rose Bowl presented by Citi,” instead of replacing the “Citrus Bowl” with “Camping World Stadium.”
While Tottenham have reportedly taken a completely different approach, being more accepting of the idea that they won’t be able to retain White Hart Lane in the official title. Spurs Chairman Daniel Levy is not concerned about closing a deal, having consulted with over 300 companies, according to the Times.
