Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho loves to take shots at other managers, especially Arsene Wenger.
The Arsenal Manager has been the target of many of his verbals but not quite in a manner like this. What The Special One said at his prematch press conference today is blatant and obvious. You know exactly who Mourinho is talking about, even though he refused to actually name the specific Manager he was referring to. This was passive-aggression at its finest.
Mourinho was asked about the pressure currently on Newcastle Manager Steve McClaren, who doesn’t have a win since he became boss this past summer.
“I think in this country, only one manager is not under pressure,” Mourinho said.
“Steve is under pressure, I am under pressure, Brendan (Rodgers, the Liverpool boss) is under pressure, (Manchester City’s Manuel) Pellegrini is under pressure.”
“We cannot lose matches, we cannot be below expectations.”
“There is one that for some reason is outside that list. Good for him.”
“Just one out of 20,” he added, but still refused to name the individual even when given multiple chances. It was obvious he was talking about the Gunners boss, with whom Mourinho had a shoving match last spring, and of course, the hand-shake controversy this summer.
The Blues manager then added, to further drive home his point:
“You know. He can speak about the referees before the game, can speak about the referees after the game, can push people in the technical area, can cry in the morning, can cry in the afternoon, nothing happens. Can be not achieved, keep the job, still the king. It’s a privilege.”
