Raise your hand if you’re a Chicago Bulls fan and you like the Dwyane Wade signing.
Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller? Frey? Frey?
Yes, the Dwyane Wade homecoming is now official, to the tune of two-years, $47 million deal. To make this work though, the Bulls had to also make some salary cap space clearing deals. Mike Dunleavy is out the door to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Jose Calderon goes to the Lakers. There’s also been talk that the just signed Rajon Rondo could be on the move; potentially.
Speaking of Rondo, if you thought Bulls fans hated that signing, you ain’t seen nothing yet in comparision to this one. I’m not saying the critics are right or wrong on this one. I’m just saying Bulls is the number one trending term in the United States right now, and it’s not exactly filled with loving, glowing praise. Let’s take a look at how the pros and cons of the Dwyane Wade signing first, then we’ll get into some of the more “colorful” Tweets about it.
Why signing Dwyane Wade makes sense:
He’s arguably the greatest player in Miami Heat history, and that is a proud franchise. Wade holds numerous franchise records and he certainly sells tickets in bunches next year. He gives Chicago a true alpha dog, as many wondered how comfortable/ready Jimmy Butler actually is in that role at this point in his career.
Yes, the media will OVERKILL the “homecoming” angle incessantly these next few days, to the point that you may vomit, but he is still the biggest “get” in Bulls free agency history; arguably. This move, plus the other transactions Chicago made this summer, improve the team from a lottery dweller to a #3-#6 seed in the East, provided that…
…Coach Fred Hoiberg can fit everyone into their role. It’s a big if, but it could happen. The biggest upside here, D. Wade is supposedly to be the main recruiting tool in next summer’s NBA free agency bonanza, when the class will be much deeper and better than this summer.
Why signing Dwyane Wade makes sense:
Well, there’s his age, his durability, the fact that nothing about this move is indicative of any kind of “plan.” Bulls GM Gar Forman keeps saying it’s a retool not a rebuild, and you got to take him at his word on that because….#reasons. I guess.
The Bulls long term plan, given the Wade and Rondo signings is….stuff, things, and more things about stuff. There’s s ton of money being invested here and that’s going to impede roster flexibility. This is an awesome deal, and a fantastic summer…if this was 2010. The Bulls are looking extremely New York Knicksey right now with these last couple moves.
Also, every fan of the team seems to hate it so there’s that.
Speaking of, let’s segue to the Tweets now.
