Michigan State center Derrick Nix has been suspended indefinitely by head coach Tom Izzo following a drug arrest early this morning.
The State News, MSU’s student newspaper, reported that the junior was arrested at 12:20 a.m. Tuesday morning in East Lansing “on charges of operating a vehicle with the presence of drugs and marijuana possession,” the paper reported.
Nix’s role in the off-season was about to increase. Izzo mentioned in the team’s end of the season press conference that the 6’9 Detroit native had a chance to lead this Spartan squad next season. With the suspension, a leadership role–or any role on this Spartan team, for that matter–is in major jeopardy.
Nix averaged almost 8 points and nearly 4 boards per contest for the Spartans this year.
