Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger said he was going to busy this January transfer window, and he’s backing up those words with action. He’s reportedly on the brink of closing the first acquisition deal of the winter period. Mohamed Elneny is almost officially an Arsenal FC player after undergoing a successful medical and agreeing to personal terms.
However, there is still an obstruction in the path of the Basel FC midfielder joining the Gunners.
According to the Guardian: “The only stumbling block that now remains is for Elneny to be granted a work permit, which is complicated by the fact that Egypt have slipped outside of the top 50 in Fifa’s rankings after failing to qualify for the past three editions of the Africa Cup of Nations.”
The Elneny deal with Arsenal will reportedly be for £7 million or 10 million Euros. Today brings a new development as “Sources have told ESPN FC that an Arsenal delegation has now flown out to Basel in an effort to tie up the loose ends of the deal and finalize the move.”
If everything goes well in Switzerland, and all the Is get dotted and Ts crossed, you could probably expect Arsenal to do a Elneny product rollout/launch type press conference in the next few days.
