Despite the disaster that is the Tim Beckman coaching experience, he will officially return to Illinois next year. Illini Athletic Director Mike Thomas confirmed it during an interview with Steve Kelly and Loren Tate on WDWS 1400-AM.
Speaking on Tuesday’s radio show, Thomas said Beckman will return to coach the Illini in 2013. Beckman has a five year, $9 million contract, but his first season could not have gone any worse. Also, Southern Miss, who had the exact same 2-10, 0-8 record, fired their coach after just one season.
In response to Chicago-based rumors, Thomas said, “Tim Beckman will be our football coach next year. And we need to make sure as a staff and program that we move the needle with the kind of things we need as an administration to help support and build the infrastructure to reach our goals on the field and off the field.”
So Illini Nation is stuck with Beckman for at least another year
