Assessing the talent at wideout in the Big Ten this fall, a few names jump out at you: Roy Roundtree from the Michigan Wolverines, Jeremy Ebert at Northwestern, and maybe A.J. Jenkins for the Illini and the Hoosiers’ Damarlo Belcher. However, my choice plays for the traditionally ground-oriented Penn State Nittany Lions who probably have the best core in the league.
Their #1 is Derek Moye, one of the best wide receivers in college football. He put up 53-885-8 last season, and he finished second in the Big Ten in yards per reception (16.7)
“If I have a favorite receiver, Randy Moss and Larry Fitzgerald are two receivers I like,” Moye said at media day.
The Pittsburgh area native chose PSU over Pitt. At 6-5, 210 he really needs to get bigger and stronger, get some size to match his speed.
“I definitely want to get stronger, I have gotten stronger, put on some weight, and I want to improve my concentration,” Moye said.
The receiving corps is going to have to be the strength/foundation of the offense, as they’re transitioning at tailback from Evan Royster, the school’s all time leading rusher to Silas Redd. And QB is as uncertain as ever. We still don’t know if it’ll be Rob Bolden or Matt McGloin. But these questions don’t stop Moye from having big goals this fall.
“Obviously all the team goals and winning as many games as possible are more important first but it’s definitely a goal of mine to have a 1,000 yard season.”
