During the BCS National Championship, the Oregon Ducks are expected to use the new Nike Zoom Alpha Talon Cleat, which was revealed at the Nike Football Media Summit in Dallas along with Nike’s 2011 Pro Combat System of Dress, a redesigned base layer and uniform providing breathable protection for superior speed.
“Chip Kelly wants to be the fastest team in the country, so we designed the uniforms and cleats so that they will actually look like a blur on the field,” said Todd Van Horne, global creative director for Nike Football. “It’s all about speed at Oregon.”
And they’ll have some flashy new equipment when they go for the biggest prize in college football.
Traction-on-demand in the shoe comes from pressure-activated supplemental cleats in the forefoot that extend and retract like cats’ claws. When an athlete fully loads the forefoot, the cleats extend into the ground, delivering additional penetration and grip. oregonWhen the athlete explodes out of the cut, the cleats retract back into the shoe.
