We’re still waiting for all that hype that entered this summer transfer window at Manchester United to be realized, but hey at least two players have actually been signed.
Hopefully, there will be more signings to talk about between now and when the season starts. Training camp is open, and in just five days United will depart for their international tour, so with that mind here are some of the top trending transfer narratives in the Manchester United online community on this Wednesday.
We start with Sevilla star Wissam Ben Yedder, who has emerged recently as a top target of United’s this summer transfer window. If this is to actually happen, it’s contingent on the sale of Romelu Lukaku, who has been strongly linked to Inter Milan, due to the mutual admiration between the big Belgian and new manager Antonio Conte.
Lukaku leaving would free up both money and a slot in the attacking position group. However, it doesn’t really seem likely that the Lukaku transfer will happen, and thus, doubtful the Ben Yedder thing gets realized either.
Today via The Sport Review:
Spanish media outlet Colina de Nervion, as quoted by the Daily Express, is reporting that Manchester United’s interest in the centre-forward has prompted Sevilla to make a renewed effort to keep their star man.
So it appears that that Conte will once again miss out on acquiring Lukaku, just like he did in 2017 when he was leading Chelsea and Big Rom was with Everton. As for Sevilla letting Ben Yedder go, it could be dependent on whether or not they can acquire Mexican star forward Hirving Lozano from PSV Eindhoven.
Chucky is another piece in the game that is summer transfer window domino theory.
Finally, the latest on United’s exercise in futility that is the eternal quest for a central defender upgrade. Yes, it’s time once again for a Harry Maguire update. Leicester City have started splashing the cash in the summer transfer window, acquiring Ayoze Perez from Newcastle for about £30 million.
Do they know something we don’t- about potential money coming in?
What we do “know,” or at least what’s been widely reported is the Foxes holding out for a huge sum of money, otherwise they won’t part ways with the 26-year-old Englishman. They have reportedly rejected an offer of £65 million from United.
Which means that Arsenal now jumping in the race with a £50m bid is just wasting everyone’s time.
Manchester City are also in the running, and with a couple of big money clubs in the hunt, plus the fact that Maguire still has four years left on his current deal, the King Power might be holding out for as much as £80m, which would be record breaking for a defender.
