The summer transfer window closed in England this past Thursday, but players can still leave for teams abroad until the end of the month. With that in mind, we have plenty of Manchester United transfer news, talk, rumors and gossip to discuss. Remember, until it’s a done deal, officially, take it with a grain of salt.
Want away forward Anthony Martial is now a top transfer target for AC Milan, according to reports in Italy. La Repubblica (h/t Manchester Evening News) suggest that the Serie A club want a superstar signing before the window closes and Martial fits their bill.
The Frenchman, who did not feature in the season opener, has also been linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich, among others this summer.
It appears that the United career of once promising striker James Wilson is now over. A little over four years ago, the now 22-year-old burst onto the scene with a brace in his Red Devils senior team debut against Hull City. Yesterday, he joined Aberdeen on a season long loan, making it his fourth loan from United in four seasons.
He will now ply his trade in the Scottish Premiership having already experienced spells in the Championship with Brighton, Derby County and Sheffield United. It’s very safe to say that this move is being done primarily for the purpose of showcasing his skills for a potential buyer, and not to give him more playing time so that a place can be found at Old Trafford.
It seems clear that he’s not a part of United’s plans under Mourinho, just like he wasn’t in the mix under Louis van Gaal.
Finally, earlier this summer (right when the World Cup was starting to be exact) we saw widespread reports that a David de Gea contract extension was a done deal. However, it didn’t materialize. Now with Thibaut Courtois leaving Chelsea and joining Real Madrid just before deadline day, it appears that could be the final impetus to get the De Gea extension over the line. Or so the narrative goes.
ESPN writes that: “United were confident De Gea would sign an extension before Courtois’ move, but there is an acceptance that Madrid’s investment in the Belgium international, who is 18 months younger than De Gea, should help smooth the process.”
