It’s already been a very exciting summer transfer window at Liverpool, with plenty of topics to discuss. And we’re only getting warmed up. Who will be the next player to join the northwest England club? Who will be heading out the Anfield exit door?
Let’s take a spin through the latest transfer rumors and gossip making the rounds on the internet today.
-On Thursday, Nabil Fekir was reportedly a done deal. It was widely expected that he’d be officially announced on Friday. Yet, by Saturday night the deal was off, and negotiations ceased. So where do we go from here? The Liverpool Echo has more.
The Emre Can to Juventus saga continues to roll on another week. Liverpool have confirmed the release of the German international, but Juve have yet to announce his arrival. Not to sound like the interlude in Monty Python and the Holy Grail, but “get on with it!”
-Swiss publication Blick interviewed Xherdan Shaqiri, who has confirmed that he’s leaving now relegated clubStoke City this summer, but hasn’t given any indication of what team he’s headed to. On the topic of transfer rumors, which have linked him to Liverpool. “I can’t tell you anything right now, I think my agents take care of my future. I’m focusing on the national team right now.”
Fernando Torres broke the Chelsea record when Liverpool sold him to Stamford Bridge in 2011. That transfer also set the record for the most expensive Spanish player of all time. Obviously, he won’t cost the anywhere near the same amount this time around, but it won’t be long until we finally know his next destination.
He has been heavily linked to the Chicago Fire of Major League Soccer, a narrative strongly powered by the fact the Fire are managed by Torres’ former teammate, Veljko Paunovic.
Other outlets have been strongly linking Torres to Rafa Benitez and Newcastle United, but Torres’ father says his next team won’t be in Europe, and much farther away.
Torres’ dad says he still doesn’t know where his son will be play next now that he has left Atletico Madrid, but he knows the decision will come in the next two weeks, and will likely be somewhere in Asia or the United States. The Daily Express has much more on this.
-Finally, who will replace Loris Karius, if Anfield are to replace their goalkeeper this summer? Burnley man Nick Pope, according to the Sun.
