Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt, commonly dubbed the world’s fastest man, is still holding out hope that he will one day receive his dream deal to play for Manchester United. Bolt is one of the world’s most well know Man United super supporters, and his goal is to enter that rarified air that includes top athletes who have excelled at not just one, but two sports.
The next step for Usain Bolt as he continues this quest is a March trail with Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund.
Bolt, an eight time gold medal winner in track and field told the Daily Express:
“In March we’re going to do trials with Dortmund and that will determine what I do with that career, which way it goes. If they say I’m good, and that I need a bit of training, I’ll do it. It makes me nervous.”
“I don’t get nervous but this is different, this is football now. It’ll take time to adjust but once I play a few times I’ll get used to it. It was the same when I started track and field. I was nervous for a while until I started getting used to the crowd, people and everyone around and it falls into place.”
Bolt has traveled with United in the past and developed close ties to individuals within the club. He’s even gotten to know Old Trafford legend of all legends, Sir Alex Ferguson, and he hopes this relationship might help him overcome the very long odds that he faces of ever suiting up in a red shirt.
“One of my biggest dreams is to sign for Manchester United,” Usain Bolt continued.
“If Dortmund say I’m good enough, I’ll crack on and train hard. I’ve spoken to Alex Ferguson and I told him he needs to put in a good word. He told me if I get fit and ready, he will see what he can do.”
If Bolt does get a shot someday, it would probably be in a friendly, if anything. An international summer tour friendly might actually be the perfect place to give Usain Bolt a chance; maybe.
