Embattled Manchester United Manager Louis van Gaal yesterday did the proverbial “rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated.” He insisted that he never offered to resign and he ripped to shreds the media who reported that narrative. He called those reports “awful” and “horrible,” and then brought attention to the fact that the media have “sacked him three times” already.
He also said that he intends to see out his entire contract.
“I have signed a three-year contract and I have said in all my press conferences that it’s a process, not one game,” Van Gaal told the media.
“And I want to continue until the end. If I am not willing to do that, I don’t think I would have started here one-and-a-half years ago.”
Van Gaal has maintained all along that his current gig will be his last one before he retires. The Dutchman insists that he will get out of football once his United tenure is over and keep a promise to spend more time with his wife. He signed a three year deal to manage at Old Trafford, which would keep at the club until the end of next season.
This despite the fact that almost the entire Manchester United supporter base want him sacked immediately. Since about the beginning of December, more United fans have been #LVGout than #LVGin. Of course, Ed Woodward and the board don’t seem to see it that way at all.
The fact that Van Gaal is still here shows you just how loyal they are to him.
