Enjoy the height of the silly season, Arsenal FC fans! Many Gunners supporters are dying to see Arsene Wenger dismissed, in spite of club leadership’s determination to keep him in power. However, what if a new gig presented itself with appeal enough to take Wenger away from the Emirates?
Wednesday brought reports that Arsene Wenger was a top candidate to replace Roy Hodgson as England Manager. Hodgson immediately resigned following Three Lions calamitous disaster that was their Brexit from the Euros at the hands of tiny underdogs Iceland.
Thursday we learned that Wenger is open to exploring the idea of becoming the England National Team Manager. FA chief executive Martin Glenn has said he would be willing to wait for the ideal candidate, and The Times and Daily Telegraph both reported on Thursday that the 66-year-old Frenchman is willing to hold talks over potentially taking the gig.
Today, we read that “Arsenal remain confident that Arsene Wenger will reject any approach from the Football Association over the vacant England job and see out the final year of his contract, a club source has told ESPN FC.”
Wenger will start next season at the Emirates with just one year left on his contract, but there has been talk that the North London giants hierarchy want to extend him by an additional two years.”
It goes without saying just how extremely unpopular that decision would be with Arsenal supporters, should it happen. maybe Wenger is serious about potentially taking the England job; or maybe he’s just doing this to gain more negotiating leverage against the Gunners for his agent to utilize.
