Former Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy has joined ESPN as a college football analyst for SEC Network launching August 14, 2014.
Said Greg McElroy: “The SEC provided me with five of the best years of my life, and the fact I will be able to cover its 14 outstanding universities was extremely appealing and exciting!”
Very true.
Greg McElroy won a national title with the Crimson Tide in 2009, as he was MVP of the Championship game that year. The next year, his final year playing college football, he totally lit up Michigan State in a New Year’s Day bowl game. However, his NFL career was just a cup of coffee. So maybe it’s false advertising for me to bill McElroy as a “NYJ QB.” He played in only two games, starting one in 2012.
The Bengals signed him to the practice squad the next year but he did not make the team. McElroy announced his retirement from pro football about a year ago today. Greg McElroy joins analysts Jesse Palmer and Tim Tebow along with commentators Paul Finebaum, Brent Musburger and Joe Tessitore on the SEC Network.
By the way, Greg McElroy is a very smart dude. He had a fantastic GPA in college and applied to be a Rhodes scholar. He didn’t get it. But he did earn a Master’s degree from Alabama.
